STEP THREE: Beginning your text
selections and reflections
1. Create a page on your blog for each of the following
Tapestry elements:
A. Quotation One
B. Quotation Two
C. Short Fiction
2. Copy and paste your quotations and their reflections from your Tapestry Proposal Page to the two quotation pages you have created here.
A. Expand on your original reflections.
B. For each of your two quotations, write a reflection in
which you briefly identify and describe the source of the
quotation (speaker, time, and circumstance where possible). Then, identify and describe the significance of the quotation and the connection to your concept.
C. End the personal reflection with an ellipsis (. . .)
which indicates that the reflection will continue later on.
2. Next, select a short story from your reading that you feel
has a connection to your theme concept, specifically
supporting one SIDE of your theme as presented through
your two quotations selected in the setup stage.
A. Identify the title and author of the short story you
have chosen.
B. Include a significant excerpt of this short story on
your Short fiction page.
C. Complete an appropriate MLA style entry and post it
on your works cited page.
on your works cited page.
D. Insert a meaningful graphic(s) for the selected short
story that connects to the quotation and concept. If you
have borrowed this graphic, include a proper citation for
its source and post this on your works cited page.
have borrowed this graphic, include a proper citation for
its source and post this on your works cited page.
3. Below the short fiction excerpt, write a reflection.
A. The reflection following this source should pick up
where the previous quotation reflection left off. Begin
and end each segment of the narrative with an ellipsis
( . . .) to create visual continuity.
B. The reflection should briefly explain the connection between ONE of the sides of your theme (ONE quotation) and the short story source. Make connections to your flash fiction, too. This is the beginning of weaving the tapestry.
C. Include direct quotations from the literature source in
your reflections (with citations).
4. Reorganize your pages so that the short fiction work you
have just completed will be placed AFTER the quotation
page it relates to.
